I’m on the mobile forums, but I’m building a pair of MoW SP&S/Columbia Northern(my fictional road) flatcars from a pair of atlas 40’ cars. Maybe $10 invested total from when I bought all the materials for different projects.
Gidday Chuck, in my book cheap is good or it can be if the effort is put in, which you certainly appear to have done. I particularly like that hopper.[tup]
I would not query your costings but I find my “cheap projects may not necessarily turn out cheap especially if I replace trucks and couplers and at the speed I work at certainly would not add my time; but wait, being a hobby if the time spent is enjoyably, who cares?[swg]
Here’s a link to an early thread of a similar nature,

Cheers, the Bear.
My cheap project was a PRR H-9 2-8-0 built from those under the table pieces. The cylinders are back a little far, and the body came from a British Evening Star kit, but combined with a few pieces from an USRA 0-6-0, it makes for an adiquate model that runs well and cost only $10.
When I can find my camera I’ll post a few photos of it, minus the pilot and with the boiler front I keep meaning to replace, having accidentally glued the BR one on instead of the USRA 0-6-0 one I meant to use.
Nice looking models, Trwroute. Not sure if I could justify the archbar trucks on your hopper/double ore jenny car, but it looks pretty nice anyhow.
Here they are, CV engines No. 34, and probably going to be 20. For some reason, the photos did not want to post like normal ones, so I put them on a site I started. And the best part is, they were both built for $10 (approx) each!
