Hi,
I just bought myself an HO Lima 4-6-0 from 1983. It is based on GWR’s King Edward the I. It ran good on the test track at the hobby store, but when I brought it home, I tested it and it only moved a few inches before it stopped. I use an MRC DC Tech II Loco-Motion 1500. My track are Bachmann Could someone please help me?
Thanks,
Proto 87
Sounds like you need to give your track some serious attention. How long since you did a really intense cleaning? Some of those older locos can be very picky.
Clean your track. That should do it.
How clean is your track? I have a 2-6-0 that is much more finikey than the 4 axle diesels or the 2-8-0’s I have. Are the wheels good and clean? A little dirt on the wheels and a little on the track can get together and mess things up.
If that doesn’t work, take it back and try it on the hobby stores track again to see if it is the loco or something about your track. If it seems to be the loco, check to be sure nothing has gotten jambed into the gears.
Good luck,
Richard
Clean the wheels on the engine as well as the track. Check the connection to the tender if the tender picks up power – things may have gotten jostled on the way home.
One possibility – the older generation of open frame motors sometimes called for quite a bit of current. It might be that the hobby shop’s power supply packs more punch than yours. Maybe try on a short piece of isolated test track with the same pack

Proto,
In addition to what the others have suggested, you may want to check to see if you have power at the rails. Is it possible that you may have accidentally bumped a wire and disconnected it? Or maybe something shorted out the transformer and tripped the circuit breaker in it, if it is equiped with an internal one? Make sure you have good solid connections at the terminals on the power pack and there are no loose frayed wires which could be jumping out both terminals.
Let us know what it turns out to be.
