Some misc. questions

  1. What is the average build time for a locomotive?

  2. How do railroads pay for things (i.e. when they order boxcars or locomotives, do they pay up front or what?)

  3. What is that logo on MRL’s locos and freight cars supposed to be or represent?

#3 Isn’t it a “W”, for the name of the owner of the line-Dennis Washington(?)

(Or maybe it’s an upside down “M”?)[:o)]

And the inside feature on the right appears to be a lion:

Yes, the W is for the Washington Companies. It was also posted on this forum that the lions head is also (or actually) an excavator bucket, as the Washington Group started out as a constuction company.

When seen as part of the company shield, it is actually fairly impressive. (But it must be my non-construction background that causes me to fail to see an excavator bucket [:o)])

Hummm.

I must be biased, because it looks like a knuckle from a coupler to me…

What is the final build time for a locomotive? I would say it depends on the company, the type of locomotive, and lastly it depends on what the customer has ordered.

For instance I do know that it takes GE about four weeks for most of their locomotives to roll out of the shops, now days they are mainly building GEVOs. However, if the customer wants something specific included in the GEVO its more than likely going to take longer.
