Some more 1st layout progress pics

Before the criticism comes… I realize the Capitol Limited has no baggage car, the background is mismatched, and yes, I don’t like the fall trees either.

Wait…are you telling me this is your FIRST layout?? My first (and second and third) layouts never got past the track stage! Great work! [bow][tup]

Wish my layout looked that good. Mine is still in my head and the one I had 30 years age sure didn’t look that nice.

Very nice looking layout!

How long have you worked on it?

I’ve been working on it for about 2 and a half years. I’m in the Navy though, so part of that time I’ve been out to sea.

N scale?

Your “first” layout pics would put many forum members here to shame who are now working on their 3rd or 4th layouts [;)]

Very nice work. Congratulations. N-scale was my first choice years ago as well. I’m now HO.

Nice!

awesome work. I agree, the trees are the worst thing on there, but they’re not half bad.

Nice! Sweet! Awesome! Cool! Excellent! Wow! etc…[bow] (fall trees need to go…)

HAHA! I’m glad you guys always make me laugh!

I hope that as my first layout comes together (since the ol’ 4x8 sheet of plywood back in the 70’s) I can capture just a piece of the success you are having with yours. This scene looks fantastic! Jamie

Wow, that is really nice! I hope my new layout turns out half as well.

What an impressive layout!

The only criticism I can offer is that your photos appear slightly underexposed. As for your background, you already know what to do.

Other than that, your scenery looks excellent as do your structures. This looks like the type of layout where one can have fun for hours switching the industries.

High Five to you [8D][tup]

May I make one othe critique? The pic with the Capitol, that car at least looks looks like it’s swinging a tight radius. I think it;s the angle of the camera, but I’ll ask what’s the radius there anyway?

Really nice layout. Congrats.

Great layout with a great prototype.

Very, very well done… congradulations! I’ve not seen that many layouts done in this era here on the forum (though there’s probably a lot of them), but you have a great one.

The problem with ‘autumn’ trees’ is they quickly pull the viewers eye to them because they’re soooo bright. Like an eye magnet… [:D]

I have nothing less than 15" radii anywhere. I’ve tried to limit my rolling stock to the length of a 125-ton husky stack, however I do have the Superliners and a few 73’ centerbeams that I managed to find at a local train show. I’d love to run bi-level autoracks but lucky for me my layout is too small (I say “lucky” ‘cause they’re 30 bucks a piece!). I had to make 3% grades and 3’-wide benchwork against the wall to have the larger radii and I’ll never do THAT again!

My next layout (yes, I’m already brainstorming) will be large enough to run 20 or-so 53’ gundersons behind two ES40DCs (hint to KATO…). I guess I’m leaning toward more unit-train operations… intermodal, autoracks and coal… and a few areas that receive mixed freight, mostly chemical plants, ethanol, etc… I’ll also have Amtraks to deal with, again not really having the space for 85’ Amfleets all-over the place. Hence I will need LOTS of space and much main-line running. If I’m really ambitious, I’ll also design a regional to go with… possibly Wheeling and Lake Erie… to provide more switching opportunities. I also want to make a downtown area with many tall skyscrapers.
