Some more Cajon pix

BNSF 7652 westbound at Cajon

helpers 6361 and 7315 shove on the rear of a BNSF TOFC train going up the “wrong main”

A pair of Santa Fe blue & yellow units lead a westbound at Cajon. Note the orange air conditioner.

An eastbound manifest climbing past hill582 (out of view)

A closer look at GP30 2474 still in blue & yellow, except the orange AC.

BNSF 700 leading a colorfull consist past CP Silverwood

A three way meet. always a nice bonus.

A former CNW unit makes an appearance

Another meet at CP Silverwood.

And another

Last shot of the day. For some reason I really like this shot.

East meets West just below CP Silverwood.

Then a third train shows up on the old SP palmdale line.

Trains are stacking up waiting for there turn to head down the hill.
This one is second in line at Martinez. Looks like this unit needs some touch up.
Note the unit in NdeM colors.

While the westbounds line up for there turn at the hill, the eastbounds keep on comeing.

And behind the two BNSF trains a UP slips past Highland on the Palmdale line.

Next in line

Little bit of tailgating going on in that last shot, eh?

…Interesting shots on busy railroads…and what is the situation on the last shot with the trains so close…

flagged in behind.

When westbound traffic is heavy trains will stack up waiting for there turn to go down the hill. One behind the other. As each train starts down the hill the rest of them pull forward. The one in front is held by the signal at Summit. The rest just pull up behind the train ahead. They usually leave 1-4 car lengths between them. Sometimes 3-4 trains will pile up at a time.

Cool shots… When you look at the pics that show the trains three deep across the vista, you can understand why people like going there. It actually looks like a real life train layout.

Thanks Dave, You are right and there is a spot I call the “layout view”. It’s a peek about 200’ feet higher than summit that has a high voltage tower (so you can drive up to it). From there the tracks circle around you and it’s just like looking down on a layout. I often camp out at this spot so I’m not right next to the track trying to sleep.
