Smitty, here are a couple of photos of two former CB&Q Budd pre-war chair cars. The color scheme is basically the same for the Santa Fe.

Hey, where are these cars at? Looks like somebody may be trying to do something with them.

Smitty, the cars are located at the Rail museum in Atchison,KS. The have 4 ex CB&Q Budd cars.

  1. CB&Q Silver Pouch-RPO baggage

  2. 3 CB&Q pre-war Budd 52 seat chair cars. These cars were part of the Sam Houston Zypher.

This is condition they got the cars in. These cars were used in MOW service when they were donated to the museum. Some of the damage that is evident in the photos is from vandals. The museum also has one ex ATSF Pullman 44 seat coach.

AREN’T ‘Budd’ built Passenger cars all Stailess Steel (corregated)?

Choice of BLI’s CB&Q cars built for Calif. Zephyr or Walthers Budd cars lettered for various roads. These benefit from Kadee #5/46 commbinations and 24"r + curves.

Don, the frame, underframe shell are made of stainless steel while the interior floor is concrete. The walls, ceiling and floors are done to the railroads specifications. I use Kadee #58’s. From my understanding, the underframes on Budd cars are more prone to cracking than ACF’s or Pullmans.
