As some of you guys may know, I’m brand new to the forums and also new to model railroading, sort of. Well, I thought I should share some of my train accesroties that I have been working on lately with you guys. I have had these for a long time, its just I have finally gotten around to building them. Comments, criticism, and questions are welcome.
First up is a gondola which I weathered extensively; with rust, dirt, and grease. Some of you guys may be wondering why it looks so good. Well, I build model cars and airplanes and I imported my weathering skills to my railroading.
Next is a storage shed that I got in a set with a dummy engine and and a few figures. I took it apart and put it back together. I’m in the process of weathering it, you can see the progress that I have made on the roof.
Last is a building that I got in a kit. It was originally suppose to be a general store but I’m going to build it as a Hobby Shop, complete with full interior detail.

I guess I’ll post some pictures of my layout at this moment. The only thing that I have done is put down track bed. Its the Woodland Scenics foam base, really good stuff. I thook these last night, since then the entire loop has been finished. I still plan on adding in a few sidings and maybe a switch yard off to the end.
Nice start. Looks like you are not a total novice at this. What ever is in the background shows someone has built something, maybe a slot car track? Doing the WS approach is easy. I use lots of their stuff, and have found that their methods work well with much less expensive componets sometimes. I have grown fond off the local craft stores for trees and acrylics. Thanks for the pics, they are one of the reasons I like this forum.
Thanks Art. The thing in the background is my younger brothers train layout. Same size as mine, except he is using EZ track I’m using the flex track. His layout is another reason why I finally got my table built, so I could have a place to run my trains without bugging the heck out of him. I thought putting down the bed was farily easy, next up is the track which I have already started. I will post some pictures once the glue dries and it is nailed down.
I got the rest of road bed down, to complete one loop, and have started laying down track. One stright is complete and I think it came out fairly nicely. This section of track will be run under moutains. I plan on, if there is room, adding in a turntable, and a small switch yard in the middle of the table.

Takes me back 60 years to when I first started. Better stuff now and you are building a nicer layout. Keep at it. e sure to keep the little engine it will look nice on your forth layout built in the year 2066.

Thanks guys. Art, that’s what my grandpa says, better stuff now then when he was a kid. John, its a lot more more easier and enjoyable than I thought it would be when I started.
I just put down the last piece of track for now. Next will be finding some curved switches. I’ll check the train train shops around here for then on Friday or Saturday. I’ll post some more pictures of the progress on maybe some more buildings tomorrow or Tuesday.
Yeah I thought about that. I’ve read a few opinions on the curved switches and it makes me really wonder about them. I’m going to go look at the layout tonight and figure out what I want to do. I do need atleast one siding loading and unloading coal cars.
I got home from work last night and it took me about 1/2 hour but I got some more track down. Its not much but it does just about complete the turn. I’m going to be going up to Morgantown, WV this weekend and I’ll be looking for some train or hobby shops. I need to get some switches so I cn put together a switch yard and connect it to the main loop.
I have also started to add telephone poles. These are not glued in yet, I just checking the space so that it looks right.
