Some examples of the detailing I’ve been adding to structures lately as I build them (or update them). More high resolution images can be found on my CTRiverValleyRR structures page.
I really like the added details, the trees in the sidewalk add a nice touch.

Very nice. I’m a big fan of interiors in structures. I like the stuff on the roofs, too. Where did you get the vents on the bus station, if I may ask?
Isn’t computer-assisted signage a huge blessing?
Sure can
The most of the vents came with the Bachmann CityClassics kit; however, if you can find it, Walthers has a roof detail kit for the Cornerstone modular series (933-3733). It includes vents and air conditioners (the small “swamp” cooler on the extreme left for example). The big one in the center is a resin casting from Model Tech Studios [link]. The A/C unit on the furniture store came with the Tyco kit.
On other structures I use the ones in the Walthers kit (bought 3 the last time I found them as they are “retired”).
I decided a while back that roof details are important as the layout height will not be much over 48 to 50 inches.

Definitely, especially when printed on good photo paper and a decent inkjet (was my Epson R340 but it decided to stop feeding paper, haven’t tried it yet on the new HP OfficeJet Pro 8000). An article I read in MR suggested that the printed photo could substitute for clear plastic under the right circumstances.
I also print interiors but on quality regular paper.
The grocery store interior looks three dimensional. How did you accomplish that?
It is 3 dimensional, I added a “counter”, figures, faux wall (with print of shelving) and photo prints (off the web) on the two major interior walls (not visible in image). I also glued a floor finish PDF printout to hide the base. The interior has a ceiling LED for illumination (kind of garish white).
Generally I build a “stage” out of card stock and add the appropriate wall pictures and figures. This is a technique I came across in reading and on my own. (BTW I just posted some additional shots of the bank building with the “Reader’s Nook” and the supermarket). This is also the technique used for the display window for the StationHouse building.
Maybe I should document that approach one day with some how-to photos.

Here is a link to my vast collection of signs that can be used on your model railroad layouts & buildings. I used these for HO but they can be re-sized for any scale. Feel free to copy & paste my files for your own use.
