Killer,
I like your pics but you need to add text to them explaining who, what and where…
For instance, the NJ transit pic…Where is it ,was it just a reg. commuter train or some kind of spl movement?
Thanks for sharing…
I like the 2nd one above - Conrail engine snaking through the s curve. Pretty cool.
My only suggestion is to remove the date / time stamp. Keep a notebook for that.

If your camera has the option to turn off the date/time stamp, then go ahead and do it, otherwise your photo of the Conrail engines snaking through the curve is probably the best one. I like the perspective in that photo, and composition, catching the train moving through the switches like that. I think if you cropped out the MOW crew on the left, it would allow the viewer to focus more on the train. You have great color and lighting in that shot, and the photo has a real “railroad environment” feel. You captured the train in it’s element, and frankly it’s a great job. The only annoyance: The date/time stamp. If you cannot turn it off, you might want to experiment with a photo-editing program to perhaps find a way to clone it out.
The photo of the NS train in the fog is pretty good to. The person walking along the grassy area there adds perspective, and kind of helps draw attention to the train.
Great job, keep it up.
learn 2 exif =)
As for the pics, you need to center the train less and learn to wait for the moment. (Bit rich coming from mr. spray and pray over here)
The first one’s simple, just let it come closer to the left edge of the frame. Also, step onto the grass to avoid that big of concrete in the corner, and show more of the train going off into the distance. (In general, when shooting wedge shots, do not cut off the train too soon)
Second one, let it come to the grade crossing, and possibly move a bit more to the right to show how it’s snaking through all the curves.
Third one’s a good idea framing wise, but the train’s just too far away, too much heat distortion, and too much clutter in front of the train.
The video is excellent (but a bit too much shaking). Regardless, very nice catch on the 3-for-1. Where is that location? Jamie
The date stamp really needs to go. I made that mistake earlier this year. Otherwise your good just like 134 turning to go to Asheville.
The location is Salisbury,NC which is north of Charlotte. I am surprised I didn’t see BJ Preddy or even Clint Renegar in the pictures. BJ is always beeeeeeeeeejing up Salisbury, imagine that(famous words of BJ). Wait, his spot is at Five Row.
Kevin
