Some questions for engineers

These are some questions for all the lcomotive engineers out there.
I am aspiring to be an engineer someday, and I would like to know;

  1. Has your job diminished your love of trains?
    2.How long before you got bored with your job?(If you even did)
    Two for CPR employees in Alberta
    3.What training did you have to do before you got your job?
    4.How do you get to work?
    Pencils down,hand in your papers at the front.

2…hard to say…
3…a choo-choo U program…on the job training (just to get a job on the railroad)…then more schooling for the engineers program… and more on the job training…

  2. depends on the conductor and the trainmaster. it is still fun to go to work most days
  3. conductor first. and get preached at saftey saftey saftey. then go to engineer school. then on the job training then you work til you retire.
  4. I drive a truck

  1. Never “loved” them in the first place
  2. Every day is like " Monty Python’s Flying Circus"
  3. Started with “Speno” rail grinding and ballast cleaning.
    then got a job on a class 1 road in the Maintence of the Way
    Dept. During the Blizzard of 1977 I transferred to the Transportation
    Dept. (Conductor) then later became an Engineer.

You’ll make a good wage but you have to BE here inorder to do it.
usually on call 24x7 when you first start out. Base pay is about $44K
per year. That’s based on a 40 hour week. Most on call employees
work at least 60 or more. Our basic day on the road is 130 miles for
8 hours pay. If you go farther that that it’s overtime. or you get paid
more than the 130 mile day on the road. In the yard jobs are paid by
the hour. Last time I checked the hourly rate was around $18.00/hr.
