Some Rail Shots...(Pic Heavy Post)

So I’ve finally got around to posting some of my pictures that I told you about the other day. Of course, I spent the day with Carl yesterday and got a whole new batch that need processing, but that’s another post (hopefully by the end of today or tomorrow if I’m not taking a trytophan nap!). Anyways, let me know what you think:

That’s it for now. The stuff from the outing with Carl is much more interesting, so I’ll try to get those processed ASAP.

Wow Chris, I love the shots in both your posts. The Telephoto one is the best though. I hear a telephoto lens calling my name too, only it’s saying “Use me Use me!” I havent been out in the field in a couple weeks. But I did finally get around to posting some shots I took with it. They are the antelope ones in the deviantART adress below.

What would be the best way to get some headon shots like that? Would I need to be elevated?

One thing though, I thought that Metra quit using F40s. Did they have to break them out again?

how do the authorities in the US take to lineside shots?

Are they prety easy going? I notice that theres no fencing almost anywhere to define the railroads boundary. How do you know if your ‘the wrong side’? Over in the UK, everything is fenced off, alot of it with high palasade steel uprights and if you get caught, your done! Even the drivers will report you.

I work on the railway over here so i dont have much trouble being where i want to be but the authorities take a prety hard line on tresspass here.

Im Just curious as im hoping to visit one day and dont want to end up in the cells for a night!

The F40Cs are gone–last I heard, only two were on the property.

Nice shotes. I see you were at my beloved Eola yesterday. Unfortunately I was up in West Bend Wisconsin yesterday. I was at a customer on Wisconsin Ave. and saw that the track through there had been torn up in the last year or so and the roadbed is now a bike trail. The old C&NW passenger depot is right across the street from my customer’s office.

C&NW went through West Bend. C&NW sold the line the the FRV in the late 80’s then WC bought FRV and GBW in the ITEL deal. WC abandoned the line north of West Bend. Last I heard, I thought that WSOR had bought that line from CN and West Bend was still the end of it.

Great shots as usual Chris. I really like the 3rd one and the Metra shot.

Nice pictures. The ones with the Amtrak train and BNSF trains passing under the signal bridge show the importance of including things like signal bridges in the photo with the train. Especially when the older signal bridges, signals, and such are being replaced by newer ones.

Great Pics! I love those BNSF trains, especially the new H3:) Keep up the great work, I want to see more of them:)

I don’t know about some of you guys but I love the cantilever bridge. The shots with the Amtrak train and the BNSF coal are really awesome. I have been wanting to model something like this, just with Semaphores. (Good luck to me on that.[xx(]) But even a regular bridge like this is always an eye opener.
