Some Scenes from my Layout with Photo Backdrops (8 Photos)

Hi Guys,
I just took these photos of various sections of my layout where I’ve used several different photo backdrops, including my own photos and some from Scenic Express and other providers. There is a photo where you can see Holo-Krome in the picture…it is the factory I worked at while working my way through college back in 1966-70. I thought it would be fun to have photos of places I’m familiar with on the layout. One photo actually has a building where my uncle Quido lived back in the 1950’s (his apartment building is just below the building that says “Downtown Thrift & Loan” on its side. Yes, believe it or not, I had an uncle Quido.

In the city scene with the school bus on the street, you can see a backdrop building photo which has a catwalk. That photo is a composite of two 8"by10" photos I took of the Stanley Works buildings in New Britain, Connecticut.

Please note that the backdrop pictures were attached to 1/4" foam board using a glue stick and then I cut away the sky part of the backdrops by trimming around the buildings with a real sharp #11 X-acto blade. I used black foam board so I wouldn’t have to paint the edges black (which creates a 3-dimensional affect on the foam board).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos. You’ll see some of the Scenic Express buildings, such as behind my warf scene.

Nice work

Mondo, Nice work with the photos. The modelling is real good too…

Nice job on the retaining walls (bus and under station). That can be a tricky mold, but you have it working perfectly.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I always enjoy the pictures, good or bad ones. Its all a learning experience.
You are the last of a few people who have shared the photos on foam board idea. I think I will give it a shot, soon.

Great photos of some excellent work, Mondo.
Thanks for the help with my backgrounds. I hope that I can get the hang of it and do as well.

Greay scence of size and vastness. Great use od backdrops. Thanks for sharing.

The building look really good.
Now we need to see it finished. That would look pretty cool.
I like the RDC car in one of your photos.
One question. I saw your Central station but, where are the tracks? You might still be working on that though. Otherwise very nice job.
