Some Shots from the New Toy... (6 IMG)

Chris: What was more nerve-racking…The bouncing on the 48th Ave narrow walkway every time a semi went over or the Union Pacific MTO/MYO staring back at you from the North Yard tower?[?] Is the white line on the railings/walks showing the line between BNSF and UP still up there?

Bergie: We keep trying to lure you out here, even to the point of schmoozing Wrinny - but you don’t seem to want to venture far from your fellow cheesepickers. Where’s your sense of adventure?[:-,]

Danny - Thanks for the kind words!

MC - It’s funny you should mention both of those nerve inducing agents. Not only did I have semis bouncing me up and down (so much so that I had to time my shots so that there was no bridge induced bounce), but there was also a car full of teenagers that drove by and yelled at me while I was looking through the viewfinder. Thank goodness for railings!

I did manage to get a couple looks at me, too. I had the “real” tripod with me, so I garnered even more attention than the usual photographer on the bridge.

I didn’t notice a white line, but I didn’t really search for it either. There’s a little flare from the one light in the top of the frame. I think I can eliminate it by going with a slightly longer lens (either a 55mm or a 60mm), so I’ll probably be back some night when we have interesting clouds again. I’ll check it out then.

[(-D] Funny… especially to me, a long-time Red Sox fan.

Nice pictures! Mmm ski train [^]

[#dots] Great job! [wow] - a.s.

What is TWP?

By the way, Chris, I really liked the color depot shot–it reminds me of a watercolor painting!

Thanks, everyone, for the nice comments.

Zardoz - TWP stands for “This Week’s Photo,” a weekly contest over at the Fuzzy World 3um.

Great pix Chris. I hope you enjoy your new toy as much as I have been enjoying mine [:D]

Thanks for the comment, Chad! Hopefully I can get out that way sometime with my new toy and shoot some steam out there. I think you had said that there wasn’t any running last time I mentioned it. Is there any going now?

Chris, No, They are still down. Last I asked mid july was the estimated return to service. The last couple weekends they were useing one of the SD9s. Next time I’m home I’ll find out the latest scoop.

Wow…it sounds like the Georgetown Loop, just farther west!

Well, I’ve never been there, but that might change soon. Check your PMs.

Chad, I didn’t see any new PMs. [%-)]

Chris:

Love that going away shot with the creek.
Any trout in there?

Ok, now I am ready to resume work.

thanks,

Ed

Ed,

I’m not much of a fisherman, but based on the number of guys with fishing poles along the creek, I’m assuming that there’s a lot of trout in there.

I really like that shot too, but I think I should have posted it larger. My standard web re-size (800 pix on the longest dimension) doesn’t do this shot credit. There’s all kinds of detail in the original that simply isn’t visible in the web shot.

I agree, it is too small. But the creek leads you into the train and it is very well composed. Would it have been better to have used a telephoto feature to bring the locomotives in a bit closer?

So many train pictures feature the train coming at you. This is a great going away shot.

Now, to me that would be an ideal day, fishing and watching trains pass. Get a little warm, then cool off in the creek.

ed

I think you might cool off more than you’d care to, LOL! That water is all snowmelt off the continental divide and is pretty chilly. The snow isn’t very far away, either. There were guys hitting the trail with snowboards while I was hanging out at the Moffat Tunnel waiting for my eastbound.
