Thanks for the pictures. I have been to Hamlet a few time to railfan but they did not have the museum open yet.

Good photos Chief!

I used to irritate my wife by stopping in Hamlet enroute to or returning from the beach. A real railroad town in the old days and first class train watching.

Very nice place Chief !! Nice pictures & thanks for sharing !! I like that Seaboard engine !!

Thanks, John

Hello Chief- Nice Photo’s of the Depot! I see they have a CSX Helmet on display also.[;)][:P] They have good taste![;)] Now all they need is a Tinplate Layout with a 269E & 1688 Trains on it complete with a Outdoor Movie Screen that show Three Stooges Movie’s & a Diner surrounded by Corvair’s also. That would be a real crowd pleaser[;)][;)][8D][:o)][:o)] Take Care.

Some very nice photos of Hamlet N.C, Chief!

I was there once but the inside area was closed, always wondered what was inside. Got to see three modern diesel engines switch tracks, not a total loss of time!

Have you been to the train musuem in Wilmington N.C.?

Lee F.

Yes. Youngest and Hubby live in Wilmington.

Very nice photos, Chief. I did not know the museum was open yet.

For those who don’t know, North Carolina also has quite a few trains on display at the spectacular former Southern facility at Spencer Shops, outside of Charlotte.

Glad to see the museum is finally open; I used to stop in when I was in
Rockingham for drag races. It is probably one of the best preserved
wooden depots in the southeast. A couple of years ago, a vintage real
photo postcard from about 1910 of the Hamlet depot sold on ebay for
367.00!

Nice pictures, Chief. Here’s an image from the OTHER side of the diamond:

I took this in July 2005.

I remember dropping my older brother off at this station (which was on the other side of the tracks at the time) to catch the train in the late 1960s, after he had joined the Navy. My hometown is Laurinburg, only a few miles up the road.

Great job and enjoyed the pix!

Reminds me greatly of the depot in Mendota, Illinois (about 35 mi. south of Rochelle). It is an Amtrak station, has a nice big layout, and some room for memorabilia and souvenirs.

Nobody had to re-align the building, though, so you good people definitely take the laurels in historic preservation. - al
