Here are some very work in progress pictures from my steel mill. There are a lot of thing missing but the general placement of the buildings are correct. I just finished laying the track and hooking up the electrics so I’m testing it out before scenicking it, plus that I’m gonna add two more of those gas tanks and two more blast furnaces to the one I got along with all the buildings that goes with each of those. The boat will be lengthened with another two feet I think to get a better length and another Hulett is going to be placed as soon as I get time to build them. That and and assortment of other random buildings.
I guess it’s safe to say that I’m a bit from being done.
Very impressive. That hewlett unloader and ore boat dominate the scene. Is the ship a model or scratchbuilt? Also, there does not seem to be much overhead clearance, is this a double deck layout?
Thanks, in reality I think the boat and the hulett actually take the backseat to the coke works and the rolling mill. The boat is Sylvans freighter with two added sections, but I’m thinking of adding two more so it looks even more impressive.
The overhead clearance is quite low due to as you guessed second deck. for “normal” buildings it’s plenty of space but everything in a steel mill is super sized.
An impressive start and I like the Dreyfuss. [Y][:D] In the pic of the station/freight house, is that wench a winch on the platform end, above the sliding door?
Fantastic work Magnus! [8D] I see you elongated the coke oven battery and rolling mills to better-simulate the prototypes. I really like that Sylvan ore boat too, I think I’ve seen another one of those somewhere…
Thank you for those kind word, I think you will be for a long wait.
Yes I wanted it to look rather “real” and I hate those small buildings on a mill. So the coke works is made of 6 kits and the rolling mill is around 5 feet long. It’s a very nice building to look in through since you really get the feeling of a huge space!
I thought that might be the case (comparing it to the eave supports)…but wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. [:D] And I meant “winch” rather than the other spelling. [:$]
