The combination of the offset headlights on the M420W and the rail makes the whole scene look like it’s falling apart!

Are you on drugs? Yes it does look a little wonky probably because of the track but I dont see it falling apart any time soon.
The telephoto lens makes it look much worse than it is.
Nope. I just saw this and thought it looked interesting. The rail is definetly warped, (although you’re probably right about the telephoto lens affecting that) but the headlights don’t help![(-D]
And neither crewman is looking where they are going …

Look at this picture of Amtrak on the BNSF triple track raceway out of Chicago to Aurora, IL and you will no doubt see some signs of rail “warpage” and trains regularly do 70 mph plus on this track and so this photo is a perfect example of how lighting, etc. can change the perception of the viewer on the condition of the rail.
If I am correct that section of rail is FRA excempt and the speed limit is only 10MPH
…Jim, that is one wild shot…To me a really nice photo.
Knowing it’s shot with a tele, I’d think the track looks rather normal.
The first photo shown by using a strong tele, shows very wavy and poor quality track. I’d think the crew would move that train out of there thinking they are on “egg shells”, and have a bit of relief when thy get by it.
The first photo shows very poor track. The second photo shows very good track. Not much in common between the two other than the name “track.”

Actually, it looks like the tracks are fine. The snow that is drifted over the tracks is uneven. The las train through plowed the snow off the rails. So the rails may be flat and straight, but the snow makes it look otherwise.
Murph, think so? Try putting it through MS paint and running a straight line down the rails!
Murph is pulling your leg …
I don’t even know what MS paint is. Murphy Siding Paint?[:P] Anyway, try squinting your eyes, and tilting your head to the side. See! -They kind of look straight. Every day, the Ellis & Eastern Railroad hauls gravel through the middle of our city on old CNW tracks that are every bit as wavy. I’ve always marveled at the fact they never put a wheel on the ground.
Honestly that M420W looks to be in rather good condition, externally at least. The off-center headlight is by design, to make room for the nose door. The rust spots above the windscreen is from the removal of the class lights, and it looks like new white paint was sprayed on the handrails along the cab front, which is rather amusing.
…The track on the other hand could use quite a bit of work.
Cheers!

Yeah, those locos have always looked a little strange to me. Headlights that aren’t on straight look weird to me…[#dots]
Aren’t those ditch lights a little too close to each other?
Aren’t those ditch lights a little too close to each other?
Yes, they are much closer than on most locomotives. However, I’m not sure if there’s a standard for the distance between them. Common sense would tell me that farther apart would be better.
