I don;t know… I don’t find this engine good looking at all.
It’s red, thats for sure.
Hey, beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, I think it looks fantastic! But if others don’t care for it, hey that’s OK.
I know, it’s a personal thing. I guess I liked the black (or Brunswick green, or DGLE) better.
Gonna be especially hard to see in the dark…Hope it never plays a prominent part in an at-grade collision.
Probably no worse than a black engine…
I’d prefer to see how it looks in daylight. If it’s Pennsy maroon (or whatever they called it), I’d have to say it’s pretty sharp.
If it’s barn red, they missed the mark by a mile.
It was, is, and forever shall be: “Tuscan Red”.
I really like it! They even found position light signals!
I think NS should be commended on their heritage program. I think it is a fantastic job. I think CSX should do a comparable program and include all the middle atlantic lines the NS left out. And their heritage PRR unit should be Brunswick green. They should have B&O, C&O, PM, PRR, CNJ, SAL, ACL, WM, P&LE., among others.
UP should be commended also.
Looks like the new CSX paint scheme is very much like the C&O scheme of the 60s and 70s…
Nice job on the PRR paint job; however the pinstriping which was originally applied on streamlined locomotives looks a little bit out of place on this beast.
Was Tuscan Red only used on GG-1’s?
I personally remember more than a few E7’s and E8’s that were painted in Tuscan Red. I believe that the PA’s, passenger Sharks and some FP7’s were also in Tuscan Red. The vast majority of the GG1’s were painted in Brunswick Green.
Tuscan Red was the PRR passenger scheme. Brunswick Green was the freight scheme.
The ES44 that NS did is patterned after the paint scheme applied to some of the Baldwin Sharks…
That may be true, but I was on a troop train that was pulled from Harrisburg to New York by a GG-1 and it was Brunswick Green. I spent the whole time hanging out the dutch door in the vestibule and had a great time. That sucker could fly.
Hey Ft. Worth, are you listening/watching???
Love it! What neat shot!
I personally don’t like how they did the numbering. I think the numbering should be on the side just under the cab winders’, with a large PRR Keystone under it. Then they should have run the pinstriping down the engiene cab like they did and put Pennsylvania down the side as well.
But I’m really not complaning. I think NS did a stellar job and am thankfull that they took the time, effort, and cash to make this happen. Good job NS! [bow]
Looks terrific ( for a diesel) wish more roads would do something as creative.
Not sure if this is germaine to the discussion, but it looks like MTH (Mikes Train House) has some “O” gauge NS Heritage diesels in the works. In the 2012 catalog, volume two, they’re showing SD-70ACe’s in the Jersey Central, Wabash, Virginian (black and yellow) and the original Norfolk Southern, the rest of the 19 heritage diesels to follow through 2013. You “HO” and “N” gauge guys are on your own!
