I don’t get to be around the REAL thing much any more so when I get a chance to ride the train there is usually something different. When I was riding the Lake Shore Limited from New York City to Chicago last week I noticed many freight cars; mostly tankers, hoppers, and box cars; with a series of bright yellow vertical stripes along the bottom sides of the cars. The ones on each end looked to be about 3 to 5 feet high and the ones spaced along the side in between must have been about 2 feet high. Did the Feds mandate this as a way to help prevent idiots from running into the sides of freight trains at night?
Mel, The short answer is yes. For the long answer read this 192 page PDF document from the Feds.
I swear, they can find more ways to waste money. [B)]
