…I’ll get my layout started. I spent the day dismantling my gym equipment and clearing space to create an entertainment center area. Then I can start sorting through junk to get ready for the next phase wich will be building shelfs and workbenches. My goal was to start benchwork in January, but I don’t think I have a chance in–
I know the feeling Chip. I am still BUILDING the room for the trains. Honey Dew has got me converting my old space to an excersie room. I wil not need it by the time I am done with the room!
As I say “Lord let me have a train running before I dye” On the bright side you are a wealth of information for the other folks. [:)]
understand how you feel: my baby’s due any day, and that means no serious construction for a long, long time (although I’m hoping it’ll also someday mean an interested operator for my second cab). Fortunately, got the layout up and running: no scenery, and wooden blocks for bridges, but at least it runs!
Boy do I know that feeling too! (almost said, “I feel your pain…” yuk!) I’m still finishing a furnace duct relocating project in the train room that I thought I could finish in maybe a week. Then I must tear out and replace the carpeting on the stairway… it’s old, ragged and filthy, especially after years of shop “projects” that got out of hand.
Once these tasks are done, I could actually start layout construction. Just need to go over these plans one more time and…
It’s the same with me.
One of these days I will get to building my layout. Whenever I get the back room clean that is.
I should get to it this year unless other projects come up[?][?]
My challenge is that 3 years ago, my mother-in-law moved in with us bringing her whole house with her. I don’t mean just the furnature. I mean the kitchen supplies, vacuum, exercise bike, luggage TV’s, keepsakes, etc. We’ve been through 3 to 4 rounds of give-aways and now all that’s left is the basement.
But you can’t walk anywhere there’s so much stuff. But now, we have one section clear and we can work on moving stuff into it. Next comes sorting. I wonder if I can rent the Hogwarts Hat.
I was able to get moving quick with the benchwork, track laying, and starter scenery, had the buildings 60% done before even cutting a piece of wood. But now… I seem to be spending more time doing around the house projects, they are usually done 100%, unless I was not listening and did it my way and not hers, which is 80% of the time. I have a dozen buildings yet to do, scenery is only a base, I have 200+ trees to build, road system for the vehicles to build, detailing out the ying yang to do and also keep entertained and motivated the child and the dog…plus keep up with all the stuff on the forum. There isn’t enough time in the day.

Once you get started Chip you will do fine, you have your track plan done. That was a pretty important task, at least it was for me.
Like most of the others, I feel your pain. We were in our new house for over a year before I got to start anything having to do with my layout. Hang in there, Chip, you’ll have trains running before you know it! Like they say, getting to a point where you can start is usually the hardest part!
I’m about 95% on my biggest project of the last year- the porch is getting its rails.
After that, the rest of the honey-do list looks trivial. I think that, in some respects, my wife is afraid to add anything to it right now, on fear it’ll take as long as the porch!

I’m in the same boat as y’all.
One of these days, I’ll start building my layout when I decide how I want to build my benchwork. I’ve been debating between a standard layout, or a sectional one. Since I’m a beginner, I should start with something simple (i.e. standard), but if I ever want to move it, I’d like it to be sectional.
Gah, who knew planning benchwork was so hard?..[:(]
i got the wood for my layout and alot of code 83 flex track and #6 switches, but i still havent got started someday i will, i also have 3 grain elevators to go on my layout.
and all the ballast and ground cover everything, i just gotta get started!!!
Go sectional. Start small and start simple but start.
I feel for you bro! Spent the last year and a half with zero funds to do anything. Thank GOD for my recent good fortune.REMEMBER, it doesn’t cost anything to clean, organize and plan.Don’t let it overwelm you and you’ll get through it. Keep the train faith Space.
