Im currently working on a drive through for my city and i have a drive in theater im workin on but i wanted a working theater then it hit me im gonna use my PSP and make the screen be the theater, still in the construction process but it should be awesome if everything works.
sounds really cool but it also sound real expensive, arnt those things like $249
A more expensive way was reviewed a couple years back in MR. It is a drive in theatre that hooks up to a VCR, and requires a little more money and work.
Could someone tell me what a PSP is?

Play sation portable by sony
Has the power of a play station in your hands.
There are better ways of doing this for less money I think. (I was thinking about doing the same thing actually)
There are a ton of really small monitors that take RCA composite hookups. Just hook it to a VCR.
Sounds fun, I am relly out of the loop LOL
Matthew
Here you go…
Grab a Pustom 2.5’’ Color LCD Monitor NTSC/PAL for ~$45.29. Kitbash it.
(That would give you an 18 scale foot screen)
Grab a $50 VCR
Total cost ~$95 give or take
Just a few questions. Does that mean the Pustom would be lashed up to the VCR? Can you actually assign them to the same address for consisting? Are you sure you’ll have enough clearance - especially on your curves? [swg]
Tom
as said, a sony psp sounds rather expensive. But, if it suits your fancy, then go for it! should be a lot of fun
Isn’t 18 feet a little small for a drive in screen? I was thinking they were way bigger than that, but it’s been almost 30 years since I last went to a drive in, and I wasn’t watching much of the movies by that time! [;)][:)][:D]

I read somewhere that someone used one of those portable DVD players.
The screen is bigger and you can get them cheaper than a PSP. I suppose
you would have to detach the screen from the player, but I guess it could be
done. I might give it a try… Good luck, Dave
There are portable DVD players that are cheaper. I imagine you could remove the screen from the base and use that instead of a PSP.
Take care,
I just did a search on drive ins, and found a couple of dimensions for a real drive in screen. One listed a screen of 80 feet wide, and another had a 110x60 foot screen. That would be about 16 inches wide by 7 inches tall in HO scale.
I kinda like the idea about using a monitor out of a car video system. I think I’ll check with my car stereo buddy, or my friend that owns a pawn shop, to see what I can get for cheap!

You could prolly get a little projector and use that because otherwise the screen is going to be a little bit thick.
I was at Walmart last week and they had a new line of movies in the PSP format, so is that what they are for? They looked like DVD’s but smaller.
This is cool sounding stuff right here.[8D]
nharrison21–Will you make your PSP removable? That’s an awful big investment only to have it playing movies on a layout, instead of fulfilling its video game purposes.
Scott, very interesting point!
I’ve got a silly ? about your pic What railroad is the WAMX i saw one today in a yard for the first time now seeing your pic makes me ask.
yeah the psp will not be mounted just so when i wanna show it off i can, a little pricey but i got mine as a present, WAMX i dont have a clue some company out of kansas i think
Thats what they are for. Very pricey for a movie that you can only view on your PSP. I own one and in my opinion the case is to big to make it work and look right. The screen is way to small for a HO scale Drive-In. It would make a great animated sign like you see in the big citys but again, the case is too big.
Neat idea, but I wouldn’t use a PSP - they’re too expensive to have tied up as part of a layout. I’d say to look at one of those portable DVD players instead - the type that looks like a little laptop PC. You’d be able to use standard DVDs (rather than the PSP format ones) and they’re less than half the price of the PSP. Looking at them in an electronics store today it looks as though it would be easy enough to remove the screen and site the electronics under the board, that way you could have a video output to a TV so you could use it to watch DVDs as well as being part of your layout.
