Does the Dec '94 issue of MR contain a detailed track plan for the Red Wing? Does the Red Wing also appear in the Kalmbach book “Small Layouts You Can Build” (Johnson 1996)? Which of these two publications is the more detailed for the layout?
Are lists of track components provided in "101Track Plans or do you make your own conversions based the the scale you are modeling? L26- the Pennsylvania and Potomac caught my eye. I would check it out myself but, no LHS within drivable distance has a copy in stock.

Sorry can’t help you with the articles. If you checked with MR and the copies are not available, try asking for copies of the articles. Watch at train shows for back issues, though this is not the time of year for many shows.
I don’t have “Small …,” but do have “101 …” Try Walthers catalog for copies of both. You are right they do not give you a list of track needs. It does say it is concidered to have sharp curves if you are in HO on a 4x8 layout or any other scale using that configuration. You could use flex track for fewer joints and the number of switches shown. If you have a little more space you could make it so the curves aren’t so sharp using the flex track.

I’m away from my MR books, but I have one with the Red Wing plan and I’m pretty sure it’s “Small Railroads You Can Build”.
I assume you are talking about the 4X8 oval with a small yard “behind” a hill, couple spurs down the middle of the town. I think the article also talked about patch job MLW engines.
“101 Track Plans” does not have lists of track components. At the time it was originally written most people where hand laying their track. It is often difficult to make a plan fit using just sectional track. Depending on the plan, it can be difficult even when using stock turnouts and flex track.
Nothing says the plan has to be exactly like the ones in the books.
The Model Railroader magazine from Dec. 1994 has the track plan, material list for the track, buildings and information detailing how to build this layout.

Yes I believe that is correct, it’s in “Small Railroads you can Build” and it includes one or two pics not in the original articles, might be a better deal than ordering the back issues (oops!)[:-^]
