Who is still running on the “plywood central” and who has at least strated on their scenery?
I am guilty of the 1st and have not done any scenery yet. Been at it almost a year now.
Complete with water bottle by the future water tank LOL. This will be Palmerton when finished. That is rolled cork shelf material.
Actually alot of my scenery is done. But now I made things challenging I am building an upper deck for the layout so that will be moslty 1/4 ply and 1-1/2" foam and probably want me sceneried soon.
HMmmm, Ive almost finished wiring, Ive almost finished scenery, Ive almost finished Etching my rolling stock, Ive almost finished another brass loco`.
Have I run out of time yet??! Thats taken 3 years that I remember.
Now, where was I.!!!
My layout was like this for a while. One scena at a time and it is really coming along now. It is amazing how quick scenery goes once you get into it. Structure building is the most time consuming part.
At it over 2 years now and still on the pink prairie. I guess I should at least slap on the cheap brown ‘oops’ paint I got. I shoulda never completed the track all the way around - started running trains and construction progress fell to nothing.
10-4 Randy, two of the 4 mains are in and running. Learning Tortise 101 control from the computer. Tony’s sent my other two PSrev so we can finsh reverse loops 2 and 3 now.
This is going to sound a little mean BUT due to my mother-in-laws health we are taking 2006 off from travel so that means I get to work on my trains ALL YEAR [:D][:D][:D]
OOPS[}:)]
Well, it looks like you are operating! Before any scenery work you will be checking power, performance, and control on every track? Good. Mine is in a similar state, but I am now doing landforms, river, hills, etc. Painting and scenery will come in good time…don’t rush it. Better to go slow and get it right, than to slop it on and have to go back and redo it.
I just started my new layout January 01, 2006. The track is laid, and backdrop is up. I’m currently painting the track (sexy it ain’t). Next comes wiring for DCC if my bloody Zephyr ever arrives from Walthers! So for now I’m staring at a lot of plywood.
I’m on round 2 of construction. I tore down my first 5x9 before it got to the scenery stage. Now I’m building a sectional layout, and have about 3/4 of the track down. Next will come the wiring. I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to get the layout up and running, but once the major construction is done, I plan to cut back on the time spent working on it and do the scenery at a more leisurely pace.
I’m still running through pink praries and blue badlands! Starting to work on scenery, but it is a slow process since I don’t really know how to construct that 8’ long (4" high) rock cliff from just a few molds…
I wi***hat I was as far as the Plywood Central stage. I still have to clean out the spare bedroom (10 or 12 boxes of books plus assorted junk) and get started on benchwork. With an apartment and no good place to work, the task seems quite daunting. Oh, well! Someday?
I have about a third of the scenery in. I started a town and it’s actually looking pretty good. This past weekend I spent putting in plaster cloth ant the first layer of plaster. Depending on how that looks, it may be the only layer of plaster.
Once I get the basics in (structures, landforms, roads, etc.) then I’ll go back and do details in each area. Lots of work yet to do.
