Sorry to be so specific about this loco

Hey

Im trying to build my layout but want a really good loco for testing joints ect…

Is the N Scale Dash8-40BW good? It seems a rather good price at only au$121 but is it any good? By good i dont mean it has to have sounds or do a little dance on the rails but will it just have good smooth operation better then my set ones… How good is it?

many thanks

if you really want a real track tester, buy the largest wheelbase steamer, a 2-10-2 would be OK. If it can traverse your track, all is well.

Hey thanks ill keep that in mind for radius testing. Does anyone know about the Dash8-40bw and i think its by atlas

many thanks dinwitty and to all who read

You can’t go wrong with any Atlas engine. I have many in HO that perform flawlessly. All the N scale guys rave about thier good perfomance also. Maybe some of the "N"on Horribly Oversized will chime in.Bob K.

The Atlas Dash8-40bw in N runs superbly good detail too, seems as good as Kato to me. To test for poor joints use your shortest loco to test for dead spots especially on points, and the longest one you have to test tight curves and clearances.
If a poor runner makes it across a joint then good locos will have no problem.

I have a couple Atlas engines and they run at slow speeds without stalling.

Yesterday I ran two of my DASH 8 for my son and boy are they sweet! I tell you what, if Atlas made every engine, then all of the other manufactures would go out of business.

I have an Atlas U25B. So far, I haven’t had any problems with it.

Too true too true

hey thanks
