Sou RR 2-6-2 Prairie???

For those who have more knowledge about the Southern RW’s steam engin rosters, did they have any of the Prairie’s on the roster. I have searched and found nothing to indicate they did. Any info would be helpful since I was contemplating the purchase of a Bachmann form of that steamer.

No prairie types [*-)]

That’s not to say you couldn’t claim they bought some shortline and “inherited” one.

Southern had 2-6-0 moguls in their Class D, two of which remained in operation until 1947. They had 4-6-0s in Class E (freight) and Class F (passenger). There was quite a bit of diversity within the 4-6-0s as they came from several predecessor railroads and several builders. Some of the Ten-Wheelers also lasted past World War II.

No 2-6-2 Prairies, though. Source: Southern Railway System Steam Locomotives and Boats by Richard E. Prince (1970).

Isn’t the Bachmann 2-6-2 a modified USRA 0-6-0? If so, you could eliminate the trailing truck and operate it as a Mogul. (It still wouldn’t look like the SOU class D, but a more accurate tender would help.)

Thanks for the replies to my query on the 2-6-2 Sou. For once I asked questions before if spent $$$ on a stemer of questionable livery. Which begs the next question–why do manufacturers insist in painting almost every steamer and early deisel in the green-gold with red cab roof on the steamers? I do so tire of reapainting some of my engins for freight service in the black-gray-gold pattern.
