Sound Decoder Help! How do you do this....

I have a brand-new Spectrum Decapod w/ DCC+sound (2-10-0) I was fooling with it in JMRI (A decoder program) and I messed up the factory sound settings, and I wish to reset them.

The Decoder is a Tsunami Meduim Steam decoder.

So HOW do you reset your locomotive completely back to it’s factory setting?!

For my BLI (quantum sound) locomotives (and stock cars), I wave the magic (magnetic) wand over the location shown in the user manual. I can never remember where this is from loco to loco so I always have to look it up. For my Genesis 4-6-6-4 with the MRC Brilliance decoder I still haven’t figured it out. In that case reading the manual is worthless. BUT I’ll bet your Tsunami is totally different.

Texas Zepher,

Try putting the 4-6-6-4 on the programing track and entering a value of 3 in CV1 and 2 in CV 29. This may reset the decoder to factory settings.

Thanks, I will. That sounds like one I haven’t tried yet.

Anyways,

There is no magnetic wand…I don’t think you can control it that way.

Any other Ideas?

A certains CV will do it. Soundtraxx.com has the manuals.

I dont know Tusnami Decoders but QSI decoders use a 3 step Reset procedure using CV Values.

If your decoder supports this reset method, you MUST… MUST remeber this:

Have the engine BY ITSELF on a short peice of track. This reset procedure has the ability to reset ALL decoders on the network I think… but check your manual.

[#oops] No, No, No.

As with many decoders, a Tsunami will reset with “eight to eight” (set CV 8 to a value of 8). This may be done either on the program track or the main, and won’t actually change what’s in CV 8 – it’s just an instruction to reset everything.

If you have a Tsunami, you really should download the manuals from http://www.soundtraxx.com/.

Click Support, then Manuals. Note the TSU Tech Reference is a biggie – 104 pages. I wouldn’t suggest starting there, but take a quick look. You’ll want to refer to it later. You should probably start with the Quickstart, then the Steam User’s Guide.

There’s a whole passel of info in these manuals, but they’re also very complete. Don’t be discouraged if some of the topics are a bit mind-boggling – just work at a bit at a time, and they’ll eventually make sense. And don’t hesitate to post questions here. You won’t believe how much you can customize these absolutely supurb decoders!

[#ditto]

I’ll add that setting CV30 to “2” will also reset most Soundtraxx decoders.

True. But not a Tsunami.

Here’s a link to rescue/reset info on many decoders:http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/dec_rescue.htm

But note there’s a typo at the bottom, about a “full” reset of a QSI:

(2) Set CV49 to 110 should read (2) Set CV49 to 128

Thanks All, I’ll try CV8 this weekend and I’ll post about the results. [:)]

Pondini,

I think TZ is dealing with a MRC 1631 Brillance decoder, in which case, changing CV1 and 29 should work. MRC also uses CV125 on newer decoders to affect a reset to factory settings.
