Sound decoder in a SD50 Loco

Hello,

I recently purchased the Tech 6 sound controller and also recently got a decoder to go in my Atlas SD50 locomotive. I did get the decoder put in the locomotive and have started to use the Tech 6 device and the locomotive on a test track. I am having trouble understanding and getting the locomotive to respond to the throttle. It is probably me being a novice at it and trying something new in the DCC world, but I was wondering if there was a website or some more information to learn more about this or what I am doing wrong. Seems like the locomotive will respond to things like turning the headlight off and on, blowing the horn, ringing the bell, etc., but I can’t seem to get it to respond to the throttle. It even seems like the engine is like reeving up so to speak when I turn throttle up, but it won’t go forward or backward. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks.

Sound? N scale?

Only real game in town is an MRC decoder. MRC decoders are terrible in terms of reliability. I would give it a pass for now.

On the other hand, a Tech 6 is NOT a DCC system. If you want a DCC system look at a Digitrax, NCE or lenz system. They are all expandable and will grow with your railroad. MRC DCC systems have their limitations, however they are very user friendly.

So, in short, buy a DCC system and avoid MRC products (no matter what the price).
