I’m wondering if anyone can tell me the pros and cons, and what differences there are between the Phoenix Bigsound 2K2, and the Bigsound P5. From the descriptions on the Phoenix website there doesn’t seem to be much difference, aside from the price. I know the P5 is newer, but all of the recent articles on sound chips in Garden Railways seem to focus on the 2K2. I’ve got a DCC system, and am most interested in triggering real-time sounds myself, rather than automatically triggered sounds. I also want to use the Phoenix software to tinker with volume levels, etc. I’d love to hear from anyone with firsthand knowledge of either of these sound chips.

I have a 2K2 with an Airwire R/C on my Bachmann Connie. I can trigger all kinds of sounds at any time with the throttle control. The kids have a blast blowing the whistle. There is a switch I installed on my tender that I can manually control the volumn. There is probably a way to do it via the TX but I haven’t played with it enough to know how to do it yet.

I can’t tell you the difference but I have a LGB Mogul, Bach. 10 wheeler and a Bach. 3 truck shay all on AirWire and P5 sound can trigger all sounds and control the volume all with the transmitter. Very pleased with the combination, the P5 was recommended to me for AirWire, so simple to install.
