Has anyone installed sound in this locomotive? could you tell what you used? thanks.
The one I had made so much growling noise that it would have drowned out the sound from a decoder, so only a TCS T-1 motor control decoder was put into it. I say “had” because I gave it away and purchased a Kato.
Rev-A with a 16x34mm speaker/baffle.

Yep. A Rev-U with a 16x35mm will also work. It just depends on how much work you want to do.
jbinkley can i put the speaker under the radiator grille? i was thinking of putting it under there because the grille pops off if i would ever need to get the speaker.
Under the hatch worked for the SD40-2 I did. I’m not sure what specific speaker and enclosure it was, the customer already had it, I just made it fit. Would have been easier with a Rev-A to repalce the Athearn board but he already had a Rev-U.

You can go with this method,

or make your own.
Can’t I just put the speaker in there without buying the speaker installation kit as previously posted by someone else?
You NEED an enclosure for the speaker, unless you really like poor sound. Either the one David suggested, or the fancier custom one - but you need SOMETHING besides the bare speaker.
