Sound in the engines, Diesel and Steam

Welcome all comments on performance of Aristo, Sierra, Phoenix and Proto 2.0 sound units. Is therer a preferred shop that installs these units? Is it a chore to do it yourself?

No, installation is not that difficult in a steam engine because the sound unit can go into the tender. Diesels are another story.

The only sound system I have ever used is the SoundTraxx Sierra. I have had problems with them, and switched to the SoundTraxx DSX Sound-Only decoders because I run everything on battery power and the AirWire900 Wireless DCC System.

The Phoenix has the best available sound that I have heard, but it is also very expensive compared to the other systems – so you get what you pay for.

I have no experience with Aristo or Proto.

Several companies advertise in Garden Railways magazine that they can install a system for you, so look there.

I have never had to use his services, but one that is close to me and who does excellent work is Litchfield Station. His web site is http://www.litchfieldstation.com

The LGB units are really easy to fit, when i was at Troy’s place we put an electric unit into a steam engine and sure enough we had a steam engine going around that sounded just like an electric train.rgds ian
