im having problems with the sound with my BLI paragon 2 2-8-0. the issue is when i run it the sound plays like its idle. ive tried a hard reset to no avail. anyone ever have this problem? what did you do to solve it?
I know that BLI uses chuff sensors these past several years. I also have read (not experienced yet…gulp!) that those sensors are sometimes duds shortly after working for the first time…or they never do work when the loco is first set on the rails by it’s soon-disappointed owner.
Call BLI on Monday. They’ll talk you through some tests, and if necessary, they’ll give you a return authorization. With luck, they’ll just ship you a new one as you ship back the damaged unit.
Sorry. It happens.
More BLI problems?! What is this world coming to?
I thought BLI was supposed to be a top notch manufacturer! I guess I was wrong.
I was going to get a BLI 2-10-2, but after hearing about gearbox problems, the idea has been on hold.
How can these little issues be such a problem?
Chuff sensor.
BLI uses a magnetic reed switch inside the loco to time the chuff’s, and it is a poor design, as magnetic reed switches are not designed to go back and forth that fast that many times in a row.
I’ve had 3 go in one BLI Mikado, yet my Class J 611 has never even had a hiccup…
It just all depends on each unit. Some apparently are fine, others appear to be an “problem child”.
ive had the locomotive for some time now and sadly the warranty expired several months ago. i was hoping this would be as simple as a programing hiccup.
i forgot to add (because im scatterbrained at times) that it worked fine one moment but as it was crossing over one module on the fitter rails to the next it stopped. i assumed it was a short. i pushed it over the fitter rails and it ran again but now without the chuffing. tried the factory reset but that didnt solve it.
BLI imports. Their manufacturer is overseas. And I would say BLI is on par with the other importers in our hobby on this side of the Pacific. They have the odd problem child, but they always come good.
That they manufacture? It would seem so.
I have one each of the brass hybrid UP 2-10-2 and the newer Santa Fe version released three years ago, or so. Neither one of them has presented me with any problems. I haven’t seen any of either in their refurbished listings, although several of their Mikado and Pacific models have been showing up there recently. In fact, three pages of locomotives and rolling stock disappeared suddenly four days ago as if they unloaded the entire batch on a retailer who agreed to take them at or slightly below the aggregate listed prices.
One of the guys on facebook had problems with his BLI T&P 2-10-2,
He will update me once it comes back from the factory, he said sound issues and gearbox problems had it sidelined.
I guess BLI is like the lottery, some get lucky and some don’t.
I found the problem about chuff sound in BLI PRR M1A. I wrote mail to BLI and they response me back within few days.
Finally BLI send me the sparepart of switch to replace. After replace I never see problem again.
