Sound

As to HO DC (just one “C”) locomotives with sound, I have already assumed that I don’t want more than one at a time on my layout. Has anyone figured a way to turn the sound off a foot or so after the engine enters a tunnel, and turn in on again a foot or so before it leaves the tunnel? They sound pretty dumb otherwise.

Thanks

(Note to self: write down yet another benefit to DCC when it comes to playing with trains. The sounds can be muted or turned off entirely.)

As far as I know, there is no way to do this, unless the BlueLine series has a way of muting on the fly while track voltage is up over about 6 volts.

Nope, no way to do this with DC.

I suppose you could hang a powerful magnet at the entry and exit to the tunnel, however, this will reset your loco everytime it enters and exits the tunnel.

I don’t know! Could one of the speaker wires be connected through a (magnetic) reed switch?
