Thanx

I use SoundTraxx DSX Sound-Only decoders in my G-scale locomotives and they work just fine. The volume is not as loud as what you would get with a Sierra or Phoenix because the DSX doesn’t have as powerful an amplifier, but they are loud enough for me. Remember, though, that you must be running your trains on DCC for it to work, whereas the Phoenix and Sierra will work on a DC powered layout… I use the AirWire900 Wireless DCC system from CVP products and run everything on battery power, so the Auxiliary DCC outputs of the AirWire decoder powers the DSX.

try the new tsunami. Only the ho version is out, but just don’t use it as a motor decoder, sound only.

Sound is fantastic, and better volume, street price around eighty dollars.

I’ll go with cacole. I have a DSX in my Hiesler and am well satisfied with it.
Once you install it, make sure the sound is turned all the way up. Mine came with the sound set a about half. Another thing is to use a good airtight enclosure for the speaker. It makes a tremendous difference.
One thing I did that most people don’t seem to do is, put a !/8" phone plug parralleled with the speaker, on the back of the loco. You can then run a battery powered amplified set of speakers in the trailing car for more volume. Mine will bring the nieghbors out to whats going on with the amplified speakers in the trail car turned up. lol
