Soundtraxx decoders

Hi all

Sorry if this is a repeat question but here goes…

I bought a MRC generic steam decoder and a soundtraxx dsd100 lc decoder.
I installed both of these in locos and they work ok.

The sound from the soundtraxx seems to stop abruptley. and when it is sitting idle there is no sound other than the air pump.

The mrc however has a hissing sound like steam escaping when the loco is sitanding still. as well as the air pump.

I also bought the DSD 100lc diesel decoder and it has the motor idling when the loco is standing still, which is great.

is this silence from the steam soundtraxx DSD 100lc decoder normal?

Does the Tsunami have the same silence?

thanks for any info

Gareth

I have soundtraxx decoders in my LL 0-8-0 and Spectrum 2-8-0 (the “plug and play” ones for each model, I can’t recall the numbers) and, once the locos are stopped, all I get is the air pump as well. I guess this is why they are the low-cost decoders. A nice occasional hiss while they’re standing still would be nice.

I too was disappointed that the plug & play decoder for the 2-8-0 did not have a steam hiss, and a generator whine when the lights are turned on would’ve been nice too.

Oh well . . .

Tom

There was nothing but pump sound from my LC installed on a 0-6-0 when it was idle.
