Source for 2-56 screws

When I ran out of 2-56, 1/4" screws, I checked the Walthers catalog. Hob-Bits sells 5 in a package for 1.98 or almost 40 cents each. Kadee sells 12 for $2.70 or 22 cents each. The best deal was Walthers - 16 for $2.98 or 18 cents each.
I knew I would be needing a lot of them soon and I figured no hobby store would have more than 2 or 3 packages of them, so I called a local ‘fastener’ supplier. He sold me 200 at $10 per 100 or 10 cents each. And he had different lengths, different heads, brass or steel.
So, if you can find a ‘fastener’ supplier near you, try them for your hobby-size screws, they might sell to the public and a lot cheaper than the hobby suppliers.
The supplier near me will mail your screws if you order $40 or more. That’s probably not too hard considering the different lengths you may need and if you can get someone else to split the order.
My supplier is: World Fasteners, Rt. 30, Box 690, Hampstead, MD 21074. Phone number: 410-239-7761
Hope this helps,

Jeff

Jeff,

One of the advertisers in MR is Micro Fasteners. Their web page lists 2-56x1/4, brass round head slotted screws at $3.90/100. They are located in N.J. www.microfasteners.com

I have also ordered from micro fasteners… bought a variety of things. Very pleased. $5 shipping.

But, if you spend over $125, you’ll save $10.75, and shipping is free.

ahh one of the perks of my job, i work at my dads building supply store here in Aus and we have many accounts with many companies, so i can get screws silicone construction adhesive, from our fastener supplier and very cheap timber and ply from our timber people i worked it out if i was to go to bunnings (our equivalent of home depot) it would cost me $120 more for the same materials, are rather large saving!

I got mine from www.oselectronics.com for a very low price. I don’t know if any of the other online electronics supply places have them. This is the same place I look for the 5-pin DIN jacks for my Lenz control bus, and they’ve got the standard selection of wire, LEDs, etc.

Check these guys out . I have delt with them for a number of years. Their service is outstanding and their shipping is not too bad. They also have electrical connections, wire and shrink tubing in handy sizes. http://www.mcmaster.com/ I have no connection except being a happy customer. Their website is very complete and easy to navigate.

Radio Shack also has them in a small assortment bag. A couple bucks.

Check in the local phone book for nut and bolt companies. I once purchased them in boxes of 100 from a local company. Now I usually find some at work.

Wow! I thought I had found a really good source for large quantities of screws, but I see there are better alternatives. Thanks to everyone for their reply and information.
