Does anyone know of a source for cheap, bulk (~15), 1950ish wall lamps in HO scale? I am adding building lights to my layout for night time operations and and looking for a bunch; hopefully for less than $3/lamp.
Miniatronics has a big selection of lights and shades. There are some N-scale ones that might also work for you. I think the HO-scale ones look a bit large.
I think you can buy 10-packs of lamps and shades separately, too, and that cuts the cost.
The wires are soft and flexible. You could mount them on the wall, shape them into place and then coat the wires with glue. Once it sets, you can paint the wires and it will look like conduit.
I make mine using the Cambel Scale Models shade ($6.95 for 6)http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/200-255 and Miniatronics 1.5v micro lightbulbs (which I buy in 10 or 20 packs), so it comes out about $2.50 a lamp, that’s about the cheapest way if you need a lot of them. You should get a 1.5v wall wort to power them or you can hook them up in series/parrallel circuits, although with the latter, if one bulb dies that whole string will go out.
Walthers say they’re out of stock of the lamp shades, so you might try Caboose Hobbies or other places.
