Sources for railway shop books and articles?

The most interesting aspect of railroading for me are pictures and articles concerning large railway shop complexes. Classic Trains magazine has provided a number of very good bird’s eye view persepectives of such areas. Trains magazine has also over the years provided a number of good articles. I was wondering if any of you out there on web could provide me with the titles of either books concerning back shops and car shops or the titles of magazines and articles on this subject? Any road name and any era. I am currently dveloping a large shop complex on my ho layout.

I can’t think of any books about the subject but you may find this interesting.[:D]

I’m facinated with these facilities myself and also hope to include something similar in a layout someday!

I found a few more you might like. The first site deals with the former CPR Angus shops in Montreal, while the other two cover the former PRR/PC/CR current NS Juniata shops in Altoona Pennsylvania. Enjoy!

Tahnk you for the links.

I have looked at the Angus shop site before, but the others are new to me and great.

The 1947 Locomotive Cyclopedia has more than 250 pages in the Locomotive Shops and Engine Terminal Chapter, covering both steam and diesel. The back of the Chapter has a bibliography of shop articles from trade publications of the period. Fascinating reading for anyone interested in the transition era.
