South River Modelworks & FSM

I was just on ebay and noticed a number of South River Modelworks kits listed and the seller is Fine Scale Miniatures. I was a little surprised since both companies produce limited run, high end craftsman structure kits and I would think they would be competitors rather than partners. I know that George Selios has several South River kits on his Franklin and South Manchester Railroad. Did these two companies merge or is George Selios just speculating by buying these kits and reselling them after they are out of production.

It just may be a vendor using the “FSM” moniker…Not necessarily associated with either FSM or SRM…

I believe you are correct. I did some further investigating on ebay and discovered that the seller is a third party with an ebay store. I can’t believe his use of the name Fine Scale Miniatures is not a trademark infringement unless he has some sort of working agreement with George Selios. It’s not terribly important to me but I do get curious about these sorts of things.

He dosn’t seem to be too lawsuit happy like some people however if you tried to sell wood craftsman kits with his brand I’m sure he would change his mind!

You probably don’t remember but a company that shall remain nameless would purchase FSM, Timberline II, SS Ltd. kits copy the castings and sell a similar kit to the above mentioned companies for half price. This brought the lawsuits and complaints out.

Do a simple search on eBay for “FSM” and see how many auctions come up that have nothing to do whatsoever with Fine Scale Miniatures products. The sellers put FSM in their listing to trick people into looking at their auctions.

I’m sure you are right about that practice but this ebay seller’s store name is Fine Scale Miniatures but when you go to his store you can see it is not George Selios and that he deals in OOP kits from both SRM and FSM as well as other merchandise. You would think that to do that he entered into a working agreement with George Selios but who know’s.
