south station boston

I plan to attempt a prototype of South Station. Does anyone have or know where I can get drawings or photos?

“Passenger Terminals and Trains” by John A. Droege has a discussion of South Station on pages 108-114 , including many dimensions. It also includes a fold-out scale drawing of the terminal and trackage, but at a very small scale (about 150 feet to the inch, roughly equivalent to one-twentieth the size of HO scale).

“Boston’s Depots and Terminals” by Richard C. Barrett has a lengthy discussion with photos on pages 153-182. It includes the a scale drawing of the terminal and nearby trackage, which appears to a portion of the same fold-out drawing as in Droege’s book. It also includes a scale drawing of the never-used lower level with loop tracks.

My copy of Barrett’s book was printed in 1996. My copy of the Droege book is a 1969 Kalmbach reprint of the 1916 original.

Prototype … as in 12" = 1’ scale? That’s gonna be some layout! lol

There’s a back issue of Shoreliner magazine with some useful info from her pre-Postal Annex days. I’ll check my archive for the vol/issue and get back to you.
