I am interested in the “pre bay window” caboose that Southern Railway ran. I have seen this type of caboose on layouts like Bob Lawson,s Southern Railway layout featured in Allen Keller’s Great Model Railroad video series. I like brass cabooses and have several C3 N&W models. Are there any similar brass cabooses for Southern Railway? Are there any plastic models that are made for Southern Railway or manufacturers whose products could be kitbashed?
Hello Craig,
There have been HO brass models of Southern Ry. cupola cabooses, but offhand I don’t recall who imported them. I know they existed because I briefly owned one that I won as a convention door prize. I gave it away to a friend who could use it – Allen Keller, to drop a name – but that was some years ago.
Smoky Mountain Model Works has announced that it will produce an HO resin kit for a Southern wood-bodied cupola caboose this spring. Check it out on the Web at www.smokymountainmodelworks.com.
Good luck,
Andy
Andy, Thanks for the heads up. I will go to that website now. I had a friend when I lived in Asheville, NC by the name of Jim King. If I recall, he was the owner or had something to do with a company, that I think was called Smoky Mountain models or something like that.
