I knew that Southern mixed “piggyback” cars with passenger cars on their trains. But this movie shows the new “Big Johns” mixed with them. Including a run thru sleeper car behind one of the “Big Johns”. Oh, those must have been the “REAL GOOD OLE DAYS”, the year I was born.
I am very critical of my own photographs, try as I might, cant do what the good photographers do. There is always something wrong. But, when looking at that Southern video, with all of the flaws…no one would say it is a TECHNICALLY great video…I see a wonderful snippet of life in an era gone by.
Lesson learned from it is save the shots that dont look great, in 30 years those same shots might be special.
I must be missing something here. I watched the video several times, and I’ve seen it before. I see a Souther Railroad locomotive, some head end cars, and some silver sided passenger cars. Where are the big Johns?
OK I see it now.[:I] I watched the first train several times.[D)]. The third or fourth train, that is at about the 1:30 mark is the one with the big john(s). I wonder if they’re just transfering a bad order car on the back of a passenger local?
