Southern Pacific Bay window Cabooses

What year did SP started to put the ‘Watch your step’ on the steps of their bay window cabooses?

I can’t answer your question but I do know that there is a Cotton Belt bay window caboose at the Arkansas Railroad Museum. It seems like it was build in the mid to late 70s AND it does have “Watch Your Step” labeled on the steps. I think it is numbered 83. There is also a SP bay window caboose there. It is numbered 125 but the steps on it read, “Think Safety Live Safely.” The CB caboose has about 5 or 6 chairs (tall backs too) on each side whereas the SP caboose is set up like a business meeting room. Both cabooses are nice in their own way. The meeting room is very nice.

I can email pics of either if you would like to see them. Just drop me an email.

Thanks for the infomation! I am modeling Southern Pacific from 1967- 1970. This was the last year of those beautiful PA’s and E units. So now I am painting a bay window caboose that I can put in the back of the train. I noticed on a couple of web sites that had some pictures that look like they started it in 1970. Very interesting about the Cotton belt Caboose, I too model a little bit of Cotton Belt also. That’s my next project!

Thanks for your time!

I received your email and emailed you a few pics.

Keep reminding me and I will send a couple every night.

Hey fellow S P fans, can someone post a link or pics and help this man find the info he needs. [?] [:)]

I don’t know if it will help (probably not), but http://espee.railfan.net and http://www.railgoat.railfan.net/ have pictures of SP cabooses. I doubt there where any pictures taken from 1967-1970, however, I have seen pictures from 1971 and 1972.
