Southern Pacific Cab Forward fans, LOOK

This is 1 big engine, and hand built to boot in brass.

12,000? Is that all? I hope it runs well for that price. I am sure it is a very impressive machine.

Sorry, but I’m not all that impressed. I think it is way over priced, especially since we don’t know who the “scratchbuilder” was. Sounds like it was posted by a non-model railroader due to the fact that 1) The 4200 series [AC-10, AC-11 and AC-12] were not mallets 2) The poster doesn’t identify the engine or class (looks like 4206 if so it would be an AC-10) 3) and they spelled mallet wrong.

Maybe it is just me, but if I owned a model that I thought was worth $12,500 I would take some time to find out just what it was. I would also take the time to have a good photo of it taken which would include making sure all of the drivers were on the track!

It’s too rich for my blood.

Cheers,
George

Where do people come up with a price for something like this? I guess $12,000 sounds better than $3,000. I wonder where it came from?? I’m now going to count the change in my pockets.

Ooooh! Ooooh!

Can I have TWO of them, please? Anyone have change for a pair of $20’s (thousands, that is!). LOL

Would be good fodder for the “how much do you spend on engines” topic!

Since $200 was my limit for the N scale Big Boy I bought, I can’t imagine spending $12,500 on an engine I can’t even RIDE on!!!

Would be nice to have the money, though. [:D] [sigh]

Darrell, saving up for the big one, but quiet…for now

A non-starter for me. I’d only just think about it if it were a steamer, but I would not spend that much for a diesel. I mean, it looks great, but… My wife would divorce me if I ever spent that kind of money on myself, especially one loco.

Of course, she has made mention of a Miata on her side of the garage…[:-,]

You don’t get much information or pictures from the seller for an item that cost that much. Doesn’t seem right…

Why would I as an SP fan and a lover of the cab forwards have any interest whatsoever in the hated UP??? And, it is a growling pest to boot.[xx(][xx(][xx(]

Crandell, Cab forwards are steam, SP just ran them backwards to keep from smoking out the crews in tunnels.
winks147, it’s hard to read on the second picture, but the tender does say Southern Pacific, not U.P.
My major concern is for all of that money, it doesn’t even stay on the track!![:D][:D][:D]

I know this is an O scale model but put this in an HO perspective. You could buy a Broadway Limited Cab Forward wtih Sound for about $350 (I think). With the $11,650 left, you could buy a lot of train stuff.

I agree with you 100% George. Also, the loco number is 4296, which never existed, as far as I know. #4294 was the last cab-forward built (an AC-12, obviously). The detail doesn’t look any better than my Rivarossi cab-forward. He spelled “gauge” incorrectly too. Although I’ve seen more than one model railroader with the same affliction.[:D]

Jeff

Hand-crafted? Of COURSE it’s hand-crafted, every brass loco I own is ‘hand-crafted’, but every brass loco I own sure as Heck doesn’t cost $12,000. Looks like an early O-scale Max Gray import to me, and even in O scale, I wouldn’t expect it to run much over $2000. Just my opinion. Something seems a little amiss here. By about $10,000 in fact.

sick.

Way overpriced and rather crude at that…

And…if you take a good look at the photo… the back drivers don’t even stay on the rails. If I were going to drop $12,500 on a locomotive, I’d make sure they did. [B)]

Tom

Anal extraction… Same place people pull the other ridiculous starting prices from…

I wonder how much it would add to the price if they included some piping?

tstage: Actually I’d bet that the reason that the rear drivers don’t sit on the rails is because the front drivers are OFF THE RAILS. This person has no idea what they are selling and no idea how to sell it. My guess is someone got lucky at an estate sale and is trying to press for profit, not realizing that the price point is WAAAY too high…

startled look hmmm…who would ever think that a cab-forward is a diesel, and who would ever think that UP ran cab-forwards???

The same folks that spell “gauge” incorrectly?[:D]

That is an awesome engine! I love any SP motive power! But $12,500 is a little out of a 14 year olds budget! [;)]
