I was going through older images last night and came across this one. At the time I was annoyed I couldn’t get a clean shot, but now all the people make it a time machine back to 1989 for me. What’s more, it reminded me a lot of my dad’s 1947 picture of the Train of Tomorrow that I shared last week.
Here are some more of my shots from the LAUPT 50th anniversary on May 7, 1989. This is UP E9(A) #951 with the City of Los Angeles number boards.

Here is one of the Santa Fe built CF7 working in Amtrak switching service.

Now - the rest of the pics I share for their historical significance… I’d like to go back 19 years and do a better job, but I can’t. This is another angle of SP E9(A) #6051.

Thanks for looking. Regards, Charles
Thanks for posting. Brought back a lot of memories.
I took my neighbor’s teenage son to the event, his first train ride ever, from Fullerton to LAUPT. I was grateful not to have to drive and park, especially with Cinco de Mayo fiesta going on at Olvera Street across the street!
[:-^]
I remember having to park like a 1/2 mile away.
I was there, too. I rode up on Amtrak from Fullerton, and the train was packed solid.I rode sitting on a conductors step stool in the vestibule.
great photo’s! [:O]
