Southern Railroad

are there any Southern RR modelers that could help me get started in the 1978-1986 era of that railroad ?

While I don’t model the Southern, what sort of help do you need for that era?

This link may help with some info http://www.srha.net/default.asp the photo gallery shows what locos ran during what years.

Hope this hekps.

First and foremost there is no Southern Railroad …Its Southern Railway.

Now that my nit is picked let’s us move on.

The 1978-1986 era is rather interesting you after 1982 you can have Southern locomotives mixed in with N&W and early NS locomotives .

I am modeling N&W and Southern Railway in the 1950’s. There is a Southern Railway Historical Society in Spencer, NC. They have a newsletter and library that can help you. Also, there are a lot of books about the Southern Railway in print. The Southern Railway Historical Society has may of these and there are DVD’s and video tapes on the subject.

I’m modeling a proto-freelanced SR branch in set in the 50s. The Southern Railway covered a wide variety of terrain, industires, and traffic. Do you have a particular locale or object of interest. Also, I think MR had a very good article about the Murphy Branch sometime around 1984. It was very good reading.

I model that era. What do you want to know?

I too am beginning to model Southern Railway at Asheville NC and local. I have built four 2 x 4 modules and have partially built an HO structure of the Southern Concrete facility from several pics I took of the plant. I want to run mostly steam and possibly some early diesel, not quit sure what years that would be yet. Looks like some good comments in this forum and hope to get more ideas from you experienced model railroad hobbyist.
