It was just announced that the Gulf & Ohio Railways Incorporated have acquired former Southern Railway consolidation 2-8-0 154 (Schenectady, 1890) with plans to return the locomotive to operation on the Three Rivers Rambler excursion train out of Knoxville, Tennessee. The restoration is currently estimated to take between 2 and 3 years. This is exciting news, with this announcement now making three former Southern Railway 2-8-0’s being restored to service. SR 630 is being restored at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee and SR 401 is being restored at the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois.

While I am not a fan of the Southern, ANY news of ANY Steam being restored to service is GOOD NEWS. There is not enough of these Wonderful machines still in service, any more added to the list is GREAT to hear. I am THANKFUL that Union Pacific has been so Serious about maintaining their Steam Program, which must cost much more than I want to think about.
