Southern Railway System GP59 #4610 Repainted

May 22, 2004 the NS had a party in Chattanooga, where they displayed E8 #6900, and the 100th year BLE commemorative GP59 #4610. Here’s a link to the pics http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=62770 . The colors are Virginia green, and immitation aluminum, with yellow gold styling. I’ve thought about the fact that engine has worn the colors ten years now, and am glad to see the road kept up with the fine old traditional look. Enjoy the Green & Gold! ACJ.

Don’t any of you ever call those NS folkes a bunch of *** again . That is gorgeous! Wow! Made my day! Thanks! Dave

I have a pic of the 4610 leading the way on the old wabash line in indiana.its good ns does that. I wish csx would leave an engine in B&O or chessie paint.

CSX still has an SD40-2 (I think) in original C&O…except for the CSX repainted nose and the patched reporting marks. I heard UP is repainting cars in fallen flag schemes, maybe locos are next.

But I think the new CSX design is the closest to a B&O or C&O repaint we’ll see from them [:(]

Whew

For a minute I thought you were going to say they painted “bottom line ink” black and white.

Nice engine. NIce paint job. I think I’ll paint my truck green with gold trim.

#4610 is currently in Lawrenceburg KY doing local switch. I am going to try and go there on Thursday after work to see if I can catch it or not. It is listed in the “Yahoo Kentucky Railfan Group” with photos from this past weekend.

Nice tribute to a great fallen flag. All railroads should have one tribute to their heritage.

ATSF, CRI&P, SOU, Frisco, MKT, and all other fallen flags gone but not forgotten.

Very smart. Some colour schemes just seem to stand out from the crowd, and this is one of 'em.

pssst Anyone got any HO E units in those colours - how do they look?

Central Tennessee Hobbies, a local hobby shop (LHS) here, in Cookeville, TN has a set or two of 8’s&7’s by p2k. in green&gold. Those engines came from the factory in green&gold, however the four roof mounted air tanks were installed by the Pegram Shops in Atlanta, as recorded by Shelby Lowe, *** Sharpless, in stills and super '8mm. This photo of #6900 takes me by suprise, it’s a new one on me! The Spencer Shops own #6901 in Southern livery. Anyone want to bet p2k re-releases these colors?
“Oh, if I could return, to those boyhood days of mine, and the Green Light On The Southern, Southern Railway Line.”(Norman Blake, “Green Light on the Southern”). acj.

The ns nazi bunch? they give us a engine painted in southern green. but take everything else away. or so they think . We still are refered as the southern by other roads and even other divisions of the ns. we still do it our way. it still amazes me that the N&W guys cant switch a red box car out from between 2 green ones . I would love to see radio trains again. that seperates the engineers from the boys.

Saw the gp59 about a week ago pulling a local in Shelbyville Ky I had to look twice to make sure i was seeing what i saw you might be able to see it around 2:30 to 3:30 near the shelbyville wal-mart on a weekday except friday

I wish NS would adopt the old Southern livery system-wide. Oh for the days of Southern green and white!

Me and my boys went down to Lawrenceburg KY Thursday and got to see it also and take some pics. We got there around 6:30 pm as it was heading out of town. It sure is a clean locomotive.

Here’s the Lawrenceburg, Kentucky local’s pic’s http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=64143 . The Southern Railway had an SW1 as the local switcher, domiciled there, up to the late seventies. That’s when they used the high bridge over the Kentucky River at Austin Nickles Distillery, at Wildcat Creek. I drove a tractor-trailer for Florida Tile-Lawrenceburg, in 1980. (my CB handle was “Stallion”). My Dad, “Short Stroke” drove for,and retired after 28 years from Florida Tile, Lakeland FL. I remember six-axle power-SD35’s SD24’s, and SD45’s, pulling their guts out, 'cause they had to slow down for Lawrenceburg.

Nice color of green, nice to see that old sceme’s are not forgotten.

Those photos were nice. Norfolk Southern is keeping there history. I wi***hey would paint more in those colors. I also wish other railways would paint in past colors of railways gone.

Here is the latest, June 4, 2004 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=64819 , in Louisville, Kentucky.

Here’s an update, http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?road_number=NS4610 . Some new pics, Enjoy! ACJ.

Is that heading into Bellvue Ohio? If it is, YEE HAW! I’m going there this weekend for sure on a scavenger hunt![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
