To enlarge upon Smokeboxe’s post, SP4449 will be operating between East Portland and Oaks Park (a 7 mile round trip) December 9, 10 and 11 and 16, 17 and 18(four trips per day) in conjunction with OMSI’s showing of the “Polar Express”. Steam operations will intermesh with OPR’s daily freight operation using ex-Portland Traction SW-1 #100 and ex-SP (NWP) SW-8 #802 (ex-SP 4622).
Since the SP&S 700 will be heading to Vancouver for a BNSF outing, we have invited them to also attend on their way to Vancouver. It is planned that both locomotives will arrive at East Portland by Thursday, December 8th and jointly participate in the festivities until the SP&S 700 leaves on Sunday, December 11th. Just how the operation is handled will be up to the PRPA and 4449 group as coordinated with OPR’s liason, Ms. Kelly Anable.
It is also planned that “ala-carte” trips will be operated as needed during the week of December 13th thru 15th (OMSI is closed Monday, December 12th) with all proceedsa going towards the establishment of a new home for the steam locomotives on former Portland Traction property at East Portland.
So please come on down and help support providing a permanent home for Portland’s three steam locomotives.
