SP Challenger 4459

Saw a brass 4-8-4 for sale on a certain auction site (you know what one) that sold for $2,300.00, on a brass site the same locomotive exactly, in the same mint condition was for sale for $1,600.00 and fully guaranteed, this include shipping and insurance. The locomotives were Identical and mint.

Not to beleaguer a very common thread, as this is beaten to death, but do not people look around? there were 9 bids on the auction, I promise not to let myself get too excited about this subject again.

Makes one wonder, Tatans. I picked up a used brass HO Balboa GS-4 4-8-4 in Daylight colors with a can motor and operating gyro headlight at my LHS a couple of weeks ago. Total price: $395. Runs like a dream, pulls my 10-car MTH daylight train up my 2.2% grades without a single hitch.

Was this VERY expensive 4-8-4 even painted, LOL? Remember the name of the importer?

Too many people seem to think they’re getting a bargain on that auction site but are sometimes paying more than MSRP. Right now, there’s a locomotive in the G-scale section with a “Buy it Now” price that is $40 more than the manufacturer’s MSRP, and the same exact item is available from an on-line retailer for half the MSRP.

It was imported by Challenger Imports in Des Moines , mint condition, painted, #4459, GS , I would say you got a bargain, unless the difference between mint and used is $400.00 versus $2,300.00, A considerable difference eh?

I just bought a P2K Rock Island GP7/9 ( (not sure which one it is?) for $50 because it was out of production and was one I really wanted to have (blaack, red and wite paint scheme). I don’t know if I paid more than it is worth but to me I got it for less than my maximum bid was. As mentioned here on this thread, people need to look around before bidding on any item as many are overpriced and if you don’t pay attention to the shipping costs posted, you could really pay more than MSRP.
