SP Locomotives Harriman

[?]Arrgh! Coming back and finding MDC is gone??! Where can I find the SP 4-4-0, 2-8-0 and 2-6-2 (or 4-6-2). The Roundhouse versions seemed better than anyone else was able or willing to make. What happened to MDC? I know they had problems keeping up but what’s the real story? Seems no mfr is offering these late steam era locos. Is there a hidden stock of these in some hobby shop somewhere? What to do, what to do? Helllp![:(]

MDC has not gone away – they were bought and merged into Athearn. Athearn is re-releasing MDC products as they are able to re-tool and unpack all of the MDC dies and tools that were shipped from Nevada to Athearn’s facility in California. Look through Athearn advertisements in MR and RMC and you will see announcements of new MDC releases, or check Athearn’s Web site.

Aha! I had hoped this would be the case. These model engines were too doggone nice to disappear. Thanx for your reply. Was most certainly welcome news. [:D]

Roundhouse engines are still available…on Ebay. Check there for really good prices on un-messed with kits.

But until a year before MDC was sold, they never offered a 4-4-0. You might be thinking about the IHC 4-4-0/2-6-0 they sell, which is vaguely SP. Besides the cab-forwards, they’re the only non-brass SP steam on the market. A few of us keep emailing BLI to come out with a Harriman-standard 2-8-2 or 4-6-2, but so far, no luck.
