SP Maxi III

I have an Athearn Southern Pacific Maxi III well car set. I am curious - the writing on the side says Inter City 125 Service.

What does the 125 refer to?

Thanks

I believe the 125 refers to the capacity in tons of the articulated truck.

It takes 125 days for the car to reach its destination?

The train wasn’t supposed to go faster than 125 MPH ? ? ? [:-^]

Whatever it meant, Google doesn’t turn up anything about it. Maybe the SP Historical Society could tell you.

And then only if it’s trying to out run a Toyota.[:D]

All I can think of is the Intercity 125 trains in Britain, also known as the HST. But I doubt that has anything to do with it…

Gunderson no longer offers the Maxi III, however, it does offer the Maxi I and Maxi IV. Both feature 125 middle trucks. TTX’s Maxi III cars have 125 T on them.
